In 2004, Pendleton resident Jimmy Smith was instrumental in informing an Anderson County Council member about the distinction held by Corporal Freddie Stowers. Subsequently, his mention resulted in the Anderson County Administrator, Mr. Joey Preston, dedicating the marker in a public ceremony, attended by over 200 people. Today, talks to further memorialize Cpl. Freddie Stowers in the Sandy Springs Park are underway, as it encompasses the near area of his childhood.
